busy month.

Sorry I haven't updated in a bit!  I've been so busy with all the holiday stuff going on, I haven't had much in the way of spare time.  I did an album for my mom for Christmas (pics incoming!) and that took a lottttt of work, hehe.  ;)  This was my first time sitting down to do a whole project; up until now I've really only done single pages here and there for my own album.  Can't wait to post the pics though, I like the finished product a lot.  Just gotta download them from my camera.  ;)

playing with smooch.

So, for my birthday this year, Shelby gave me a whole set of Smooch (yes, my sister is awesome)!  I love this stuff... So much that I'm starting to wonder how I ever scrapped without it.  =)

So I've been playing around with it, and here are two layouts that I did with it.  For the first one, I just used the Smooch to highlight the designs that were already on the paper:

For the second one, I used Smooch to make the alphas.  They were just plain chipboard, so I used three different Smooch colors (+ a little bit of black Stickles) to make them match the page:

I can't get enough of Pink Paislee's Amber Road collection; it is so perfect for fall!  I just did a layout tonight with it:

I just have to make sure I actually save some of it for my Thanksgiving pictures...  =P

elle's studio dt search.

Today I am putting together my application for the Elle’s Studio design team search.  This is my first time ever formally applying to a design team, so I’m really nervous!  I’m always soo critical of my own work.  Lol.  I know a lot of other people probably feel like that too.

Anyway, Shelby carries a lot of their stuff and I adore all of it, so it would be really cool to be a part of their team.  Wish me luck!!  ;)

Okay, I finally finished my layout for Shelby's button challenge.  Here it is!

 

I couldn't actually find any buttons laying around, so I just cut them off of a shirt that I ruined in the wash.  lol  ;)

masking and stamping.

I had some fun doing this layout last night.  I used a variation of the masking/stamping technique that Shelby is teaching in her November class.

"think green" and buttons.

Scrap with Shelby just had a "Think Green" recycling contest for October.  Here is my entry (I used the packaging from my Elle's Studios tags and the packaging from a pack of Prima flowers):

The challenge for November is to create a layout or project using at least 5 buttons.  Looks like I'll finally have to hunt down all those stray buttons and put them to good use!

about me.

I am 27 years old.  I currently live in Alexandria, Virginia; although, “home” is really Philadelphia.  I moved here for work almost two years ago, and I’ve been missing family and friends ever since.  Luckily, I have my boyfriend, Ben, here with me, and he is a blessing in my life.

I have always been good at all things creative: art, music… You get the idea.  Awhile ago my sister started this scrapbooking business, Scrap with Shelby.  I had no idea what scrapbooking was, really.  When I was in high school, I used to paste pictures into spiral bound sketch books and draw and journal around them with colored pencils, but acid free?  12x12 layouts?  Glue Dots?  I was clueless. 

So Shelby was doing a new convention just this last April, and she was worried.  It was a new and untested convention in the area, and she had no clue what to expect.  She was afraid of losing money on the cost of the table, and she couldn’t afford to pay anyone to help her for the weekend.  I don’t remember if we volunteered or if she asked, but Ben and I became the newest additions to the Scrap with Shelby convention crew.  We drove up to PA for the weekend and, WaWa coffees in hand, got a crash course in scrapbooknig materials and techniques from Shelby Saturday morning just before the convention started.

Naturally, Shelby had tried to recruit me into the world of scrapbooking before, but I had no interest, honestly.  She knew I would be pretty decent at it given my affinity for arty stuff.  It wasn’t until I saw the beautifully organized stacks of 12x12 paper in her booth at that convention that I started to “get it”.  This stuff was cool.  The paper was amazing, and that weekend I came home with my own stash of paper and goodies, even though I had no idea what to do with any of it.  Shelby sent me to a multitude of scrapbooking websites, among them, her website and the Pink Paislee website which both became huge inspirations to me to start scrapbooking.  Plus, she even gave me a very special “sister discount” on all my supplies!

So, that’s how it started.  Soon after my first few pages were finished, Shelby asked me to be on her design team.  And another “scrap chick” is born. ;)
